Abstract
We report the results of a Monte Carlo study of finite-temperature pure SU(3) gauge theory performed on the parallel computer QCDPAX. The deconfining transition is studied on ×24×4, ×36×4, ×6, and ×48×6 lattices with 480 000–1 112 000 iterations. A clear two-phase structure is observed on spatially large (×36×4 and ×48×6) lattices and the gaps of physical quantities at the transition are calculated on these lattices. The latent heat thus obtained on the =6 (×48×6) lattice is much smaller than the one previously obtained.
