Abstract
Mucus secretion into the airways is mainly under vagal cholinergic control, and its volume and composition are modulated by sympathetic (adrenergic) and peptidergic mechanisms. Inflammatory mediators also change the secretion. The various compositions of mucus have been little explored, and the importance of its changes in disease is little understood. Keywords
