Abstract
Magnetic, magnetoelectric and dielectric measurements have been performed on a single crystal of EuMn2O5. It is revealed that EuMn2O5 shows structural and magnetic phase transitions around 40 ± 1 K. The low-temperature phase was found to be noncentrosymmetric from the existence of the linear magnetoelectric effect and its dependence on the directions of the poling electric field. Another transition was observed at 21 ± 1 K. A possible magnetic symmetry and spin structure at 4.2 K is proposed and compared with the results of neutron diffraction studies on isomorphous manganites.
