Abstract
While national attention has been focused on cigarette smoking, smokeless tobacco use has increased at an alarming rate. The common misconception, especially among teenage boys, that smokeless tobacco is a safe alternative to smoking may contribute to its rise in popularity. A number of harmful effects, however, are well established, and others are still being discovered. Dr Ricer reviews the history of tobacco use, the hazards of smokeless tobacco, and intervention strategies. Keywords
