Recherches sur la formation et la transformation des esters XIX. Sur la phosphorolyse des groupements ester carboxylique

Abstract
The acidolysis of carboxylic esters by polyphosphoric acid is studied. Carboxylic esters heated 17 h at 100° with pyrophosphoric acide (or the corresponding amount of polyphosphoric acid) undergo very moderate acidolysis except in the case of dicarboxylic acids which yield easily intramolecular anhydrides (phthalic acid, succinic acid and maleic acid); in these cases the acidolysis is very high.
