ARTHRODESIS OF THE HIP IN WIDE ABDUCTION

Abstract
Abduction arthrodesis provides the following conditions favorable to union: a large area of contact between cancellous-bone surfaces with excellent circulation, firm apposition, and good immobilization. Important to the maintenance of contact at the site of fusion is the axial impaction provided by the tightness of the adductor muscles.
