Abstract
We wish to thank Dr. L. J. Cuddy for kindly allowing us to quote from his results prior to their publication. A.H. is grateful to the late D. K. C. MacDonald, F.R.S., and the staff at the National Research Council for the generous facilities and stimulating atmosphere made available to him on the occasion of a summer visit. The available data on the resistivity due to dislocations in a number of metals are presented taking account where possible of the considerable deviations from Matthiessen's Rule which occur between 4·27°K and 80°K. At present scattering due to lattice dilatation and scattering due to stacking faults both seem incapable of explaining the observations. By comparing the deformation of the lattice round a dislocation with the deformation due to thermal vibrations, a relation between dislocation resistivity and ideal resistivity is obtained which appears to account fairly well for the relative magnitude of the dislocation resistivities measured in different metals. Keywords
