Abstract
Sulfonamide concns. in the aqueous and in the plasma were estimated after oral admn. of 150 mg./kg. in the rat and of 100 mg./kg. in the rabbit. In the rat, sulfanilamide and sulfamerazine have higher aqueous concns. and higher aqueous/plasma concn. ratios, than sulfadiazine and sulfamezathine. Sulfathiazole has a low aqueous/ plasma ratio. The max. concn. of these drugs is reached within 3 hrs. After 7 hrs. the concns. are low, diminishing values being obtained for sulfanilamide, sulfadiazine, sulfamerazine and sulfamezathine, respectively. The sulfathiazole content then is nil. In the rabbit, sulfadiazine and sulfamezathine give better concns. than sulfamerazine, the peak being reached within 30 min. Sulfamezathine gives the highest aqueous/plasma ratio. Within 3 hrs. the concns. are low, with diminishing values for sulfadiazine, sulfamerazine and sulfamezathine, respectively. Keywords
