Abstract
Prism is a retrieval system that provides an online catalogue for a collection of original cartoon drawings at the University of Kent. The article starts with a general discussion of graphical user interfaces for retrieval systems and then describes the Prism system itself. Prism is unusual in that it has a largely Direct Manipulation graphical user interface and also in that it stores and displays digitised images of the cartoon drawings along with conventional textual catalogue records. Keywords
