Abstract
The notion that tRNA and Escherichia coli 5S rRNA interact through evolutionarily conserved complementary sequences was tested by nucleolytic modification of the 5S rRNA, using the modified rRNA to reconstitute the large ribosomal subunit, and assaying for poly(uridylic acid)-directed polyphenylalanine synthesis. The 5S rRNA sequence C-G-A-A (residues 43-46) and several residues surrounding it are not essential for protein synthesis. This publication has 25 references indexed in Scilit:
