THE GONAD-STIMULATING POTENCY OF THE PITUITARY OF HYPOTHYROID YOUNG MALE RATS

Abstract
55 [male] white rats 21 to 28 days old were thyroidectomized and after 3-7 wks. their pituitaries were studied or injected into immature [female] mice 18-20 days of age. Littermate [female] mice received glands of normal [male] littermates of the thyroidectomized animals, or were left untreated. The hosts were given 1 to 3 pituitary glands and were killed on the 4th or 5th day after the first inj. The data indicate a decrease in gonad-stimulating potency of the pituitary of the young [male] rat 21-50 days after thyroidectomy.
