Glory undulations of some alkali-molecule systems

Abstract
The velocity dependence of the total cross section for K scattered from CH4, and Na scattered from CH4, CH3OH, CH2Cl2, C(CH3)4, C6H6 has been precisely measured, and a phenomenological (non-averaged) cross section obtained. Since undulation quenching cannot be unambiguously traced back to potential parameters, the measurements have been evaluated in terms of a (12-6) potential only, taking semi-theoretical van der Waals constants and the positions of the undulation extrema as input. Some computations to assess the effect of an optical potential on integral cross sections are presented. An appendix describes the evaluation of Na-Ne scattering, which shows no undulations in the energy range, considered.
