Abstract
A chloroform extract of the copepod Calanus finmarchicus, examined spectroscopically, snowed astacine chiefly, some carotene but no vitamin A. 0.2-0.4 gm. daily doses of these copepods stimulated the growth of rats depleted of vitamin A. The fresh water copepod Daphnia magna and the mollusc Valsella modio-lus did not contain the keto-carotenoid, astacine, although the latter contained a red hydroxy carotenoid. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
