Abstract
Fluorescence rapidly returns to spots bleached by a laser beam in the continuous fluorescence of cultured cells labeled on the surface with fluorescein isothiocyanate. The rate of recovery of fluorescence after bleaching can be interpreted as a measure of the lateral diffusion of integral membrane proteins labeled with fluorescein. Keywords
