Short-term storage of Discovery apples

Abstract
The effects of store temperature and atmosphere, picking date and ethephon application on the quality of the early apple cv Discovery after storage for up to 42–44 days were investigated. Quality deterioration during storage was retarded by the use of low O2 or high CO2 atmospheres and low temperatures. Quality declined with advancing maturity, and pre-harvest ethephon application markedly increased flesh breakdown post-storage, particularly in later-picked fruit.
