Abstract
Theoretical results on the optimal control of linear time lag systems with respect to a quadratic criterion are shown to provide a practical feedback controller design procedure. A computational procedure is given for obtaining a stable linear feedback controller. A comprehensive illustration is given of the application of the quadratic criterion results to the design of a feedback controller for a chemical process having transport lag. Keywords
