Abstract
In a study of the maturation of pituitary and testicular secretory interrelationships, ram lambs were given single i.v. injections of GNRH (1 µg/kg) on weeks 6, 10, 14, 18, 22, 26, 30 and 32 of postnatal life. Four animals were treated at each age and venipuncture blood samples were collected prior to and for 4 h after injection. Plasma LH and testosterone levels were measured by specific radioimmunoassays. Highest preinjection plasma LH levels and secretory responses to GNRH were observed at 6 weeks of age and both parameters declined steadily until 32 weeks. Peak plasma LH levels were recorded within 15 min of GNRH injection at 6 weeks but tended to be delayed progressively until up to 60 min by 32 weeks. Preinjection plasma testosterone levels and testosterone secretory responses following GNRH were lowest at 6 weeks and progressively increased until 32 weeks. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
