Abstract
The Deep Space One (DS1)mission, scheduled to fly in 1998, will be thefirst NASA spacecraft to feature an on-boardplanner. The planner is part of an artificialintelligence based control architecture thatcomprises the planner/scheduler, a planexecution engine, and a model-based faultdiagnosis and reconfiguration engine. Thisautonomy architecture reduces mission costsand increases mission quality by enabling highlevelcommanding, robust fault responses, andopportunistic responses to...Keywords
