Abstract
A spectrophotometric method for determining theophylline is reported that is useful as a routine method for monitoring [human] serum theophylline concentrations. The recovery of theophylline from serum is essentially 100% compared with aqueous standards taken through the entire procedure. Barbiturates, which interfere with most UV spectrometric methods for theophylline, do not interfere with this method. The procedure requires less than 45 min for completion and is more sensitive than most spectrophotometric methods for determining theophylline. [Theophylline is a CNS stimulant used for the relaxation of bronchial muscle in severe asthma. High levels of the drug have possible adverse effects on vasomotor activity and the circulatory system.].This publication has 7 references indexed in Scilit:
