Abstract
The solubility and pH of the and systems are discussed with particular reference to the performance of the modern dry cell. New data are presented to indicate that the pH change in the cathode mix during cell discharge is one of the most important factors contributing to the decline in the working voltage. Evidence is offered to show that, in addition to the previously reported produced at the dry cell cathode, the compound also may be formed during heavy drain tests.
