Abstract
Turbo codes are coupled in this article with M-ary orthogonal signaling. Orthogonal signaling enables one to use those codes on incoherently detected channels, such as the uplink of a CDMA system. The proposed codes are simulated on a variety of channels, including coherent AWGN, incoherently detected AWGN and fading channel with RAKE receiver. The simulated performance is compared with capacity computed for the corresponding cases and with results published on the IS-95 CDMA cellular system. For a block size of 195 bits a frame error rate of 10/sup -2/ was achieved at E/sub b/N/sub 0/=3.5 dB and E/sub b/N/sub 0/=7.3 dB on the incoherently detected AWGN channel and on the Rayleigh fading channel without diversity, respectively. Keywords
