Abstract
On the basis of weight determinations of the thymus gland, Hammett has asserted that the so-called age involution is accidental. He has overlooked the facts that an increase of the mean weight of the thymus after puberty does not exclude a simultaneous reduction of the parenchyma; that age involution and accidental involution present clearly different microscopical appearances and are therefore only confounded when the organic structure is neglected; and that the accidental involution in nutritive disturbances has no definitive character but may under favorable circumstances be followed by a rapid and complete regeneration of the organ.
