A STUDY OF COOPERATIVE ADULT EDUCATION

Abstract
This brief article describes an 18‐month study of programs jointly sponsored by industry and education agencies for adults with less than a high school education. An extensive search throughout the United States and Trust Territories yielded 108 programs that met the criteria of sponsorship and target‐audience characteristics. From this group, several programs were interviewed by phone and visited on‐site. A “blue ribbon” panel assisted the project staff in developing criteria for identifying and studying cooperative programs. Project outcomes include five reports: a listing of programs, abstracts of selected programs, case studies of selected programs, guidelines for developing or evaluating programs, and a publication discussing issues related to cooperative adult education programs.
