Abstract
The authors found the existence of three domains on nearshore current systems by applying the surf similarity parameter (Iribarren No.) [Battjes (1974)] and the concept of infragravity waves [Suhayda (1974)]. The previous two theories [Bowen and Inman (1969), and Hino (1973)] can be applied to two of the three domains respectively, which correspond to steep and medium beaches. For the extra domain, there has been no theory, but from the analysis of field data, the authors are proposing a new hypothesis, the Infragravity Domain Hypothesis for it. From the many field observations of the velocity field taken by the BACS [Horikawa and Sasaki (1972)], several analysed results are presented. Keywords
