Abstract
The development of on-line Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) detection of normal-phase, small-bore (1.0-mm × 50-cm), high performance liquid chromatographic effluents is reviewed. Sensitivity and mobile phase considerations are discussed. The applicability of the technique to nonpolar, polar, and very polar components in complex coal-derived mixtures is described. Limitations of the method along with anticipated future developments are outlined.
