Azygography in the Evaluation of Operability of Pulmonary Carcinoma

Abstract
COSTAL intraosseous venography (azygography) is the only technic currently available that permits roentgenologic visualization of the thoracic venous drainage. This procedure, though well defined,1 has not been widely utilized in the preoperative evaluation of the patient with pulmonary carcinoma. Fry et al.2 and Lessmann, Schobinger and Lasser3 have suggested the value of this technic in demonstrating mediastinal invasion by pulmonary neoplasms. We are reporting our experience with the method in the clinical evaluation of 46 patients with bronchogenic carcinoma.
