Positronium-beam production and positronium scattering from molecular hydrogen

Abstract
The efficiency with which a positron beam is converted into an positronium beam, via charge exchange in molecular hydrogen and argon gases was investigated. At certain incident positron energies, molecular hydrogen was found to be over three times as efficient as argon for this purpose. The beam conversion efficiency was investigated with respect to both gas pressure and energy. Preliminary measurements for the total cross section of Ps scattering from molecular hydrogen are also presented.
