Abstract
The kinetics of non-radiative processes is studied on the basis of a general formulation of reaction-rate theory. The observed transition rates (at constant temperature) are calculated making use of the transition probabilities (at constant energy) derived in Part I. Rate expressions are obtained for the high-temperature and low-temperature as well as for the intermediate temperature ranges by using different approximations. Finally, a detailed discussion is made of the relations of the general reaction-rate approach to both the multiphonon theory of non-adiabatic processes and the semiclassical chemical (activated-complex) rate theory of adiabatic processes.
