Abstract
The muscles of the hyoid apparatus of Eugenes fulgens are described and illustrated. Although the morphology of the hummingbird tongue has been studied in the past, several new observations were made, utilizing serial cross sections of the tongues of Selasphorus sasin and several other species of hummingbirds. The sequential arrangement of tissues in the hummingbird tongue is discussed, and pertinent areas are illustrated with photographs of cross sections. Keywords
