Susceptibility to Diphtheria among Elderly Persons

Abstract
THIS study attempts to evaluate the incidence of susceptibility to diphtheria and the sensitivity to diphtheria toxoid among elderly persons. In addition, a pilot study on a method of immunizing susceptible elderly people is described.Diphtheria is ordinarily considered a disease of childhood, and thirty years ago the great majority of cases did occur in the first few years of life.
