Investigation of V3+ Pairs in Al2O3 by Phonon Frequency-Crossing Spectroscopy

Abstract
An investigation has been made of V3+ pairs in Al2 O3 by phonon frequency-crossing spectroscopy. The crossing spectrum can be interpreted with an interaction Hamiltonian JS1·S2 and pairs have been identified with |J|=0.29 and 1.50 cm1. Pairs have been detected at concentrations ∼2×102 ppm, and it is probable that concentrations ∼2×103 ppm could be detected in this way.
