Abstract
Radiosurgery is a therapeutic modality for the treatment of small brain lesions. In this work, collimated beams of 6 MV X rays of circular shape with diameter sizes ranging from 3 to 52.5 mm were employed. The dosimetric functions studied were the tissue phantom ratio (TPR), off axis ratio (OAR) and output factor (OF). The dosimetric methods used, which were compared in terms of those functions, were film dosimetry, ionisation chamber, semiconductor diode dosemeters and thermoluminescence. The TPR measurements show a good agreement. With respect to the OAR, the widest discrepancies are found at the borders of the beams. The OF variations range between 9% and 0.2% for collimator sizes of 3 and 52.5 mm respectively. The Monte Carlo percentage depth dose calculations show a difference with semiconductor measurements of the same order as that obtained among the detectors used in this work. Keywords
