EFFECTS OF ELECTROSHOCK THERAPY ON THE EXCRETION OF EPINEPHRINE

Abstract
Therapeutic electroshock in patients receiving only small doses of a muscle-relaxing drug as premedication resulted in a significant increase in the rate of urinary excretion of epinephrine. No significant change was observed in patients premedicated with atropine and a barbiturate in addition to the relaxant. The effect of electroshock on the rate of norepinephrine output was quite variable.
