Unvollständige Viruspartikel als Folge von Mutationen im Genom des Bacteriophagen fr.

Abstract
Genetically suppressible mutants of the bacteriophage fr have been isolated. One type of mutation produces incomplete phage particles of buoyant density 1.41. These particles contain only 70% of the normal amount of RNA which seems to have been degraded into small pieces which have sedimentation constants from 12 — 16 S. The coat protein is indistinguishable from wildtype coat with respect to its general structure, serological properties and the carboxyl ends of the peptide chains. It is suggested that in this group of mutants the process of assembling RNA and coat protein into complete virus is disturbed.
