Dobutamine, a New Beta Agonist

Abstract
Dobutamine, a new cardiac stimulant, has been tested in comparison with epinephrine, isoproterenol, and dopamine in dogs under halothane anesthesia. Because of its moderate effect on the peripheral vasculature, dobutamine was found to fall between dopamine and isoproterenol in the spectrum of drugs effective in the treatment of “low cardiac output syndrome.” The authors conclude that dobutamine may be less hazardous in the presence of halogenated hydrocarbon anesthetic agents than similar cardioactive agents now available.
