Abstract
Spirochetes were recognized in the large bowel of 57 of 59 baboons as a basophilic fringe at the microvilli brush border of the epithelial cells. Both cecum and colon were usually affected, but 7 animals had spirochetes in the cecum alone. Examination of 3 animals by transmission EM revealed only 1 type of spirochete; ring forms and cross-walls were present. Inflammatory changes were not seen in association with the infection, and the distribution of spirochetes in 10 animals with soft or diarrheic feces resembled that in normal animals. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
