Abstract
Using the geranium and Verbena as test plants, a direct comparison of the porometer and Lloyd''s method, (tearing off the leaf epidermis, plunging it immediately into absolute alcohol, and measuring the extreme apertures under the microscope), for measuring stomatal apertures was made. According to the coefficient of variability of the 2 methods, the first is nearly 10 times as sensitive as the 2nd, although Lloyd''s method gives a more accurate picture of the diffusive capacity of stomata at small apertures. The 2 methods however, do not yield results which differ significantly with wide stomatal apertures. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
