The Use of the Microhematocrit Technic for the Recovery ofBorrelia duttoniifrom the Blood

Abstract
Goldsmid, J. M., and Mahomed, K.: The use of the microhematocrit technic for the recovery of Borrelia cliittonii from the blood. Am. J. Clin. Pathol. 58: 165–169, 1972. The microhematocrit technic, which has proved in the past to be very effective for the recovery of microfilariae and trypanosomes from the blood, has been found to be very good for the recovery of Borrelia duttonii from citrated blood also. These results suggest that the technic would be useful and time-saving for the laboratory diagnosis of African relapsing fever. Preliminary studies of the survival times of these spirochetes in blood containing citrate, heparin, or sequestrene as an anticoagulant have been done.
