Abstract
In a previous publication from this laboratory, we acknowledged the variatioplasma renin activity (PRA) with posture, diurnal variation, and salt intake. Dr. John Laragh's group has related PRA to 24-hour urinary sodium excret. However, we felt and continue to feel this method is iractical in any setting other than a metabolic ward and, therefore, developed the method relating PRA and sodium/creatinine ratio in a urine specimen collected immediatelyafter venipuncture in adults. Admittedly, in dealindiately ividuals not of adult size, as is the case in our studies of adolescents, relationship of PRA to sodium/creatinine ratio per unit surface area would be of great interest. Keywords
