Abstract
Advances in new imaging techniques have improved our understanding of the pathogenesis of anal incontinence after childbirth. Recent studies have confirmed the high prevalence of anorectal trauma and symptoms, although women rarely volunteer these symptoms. The way forward is to identify obstetric factors associated with anal incontinence and modify current practice to minimize morbidity. Keywords
