Abstract
The authors identify and discuss three major categories of deficiencies in current transport protocols: performance, naming, and functionality. They describe the design of the Versatile Message Transaction Protocol (VMTP) and some performance measurements of the protocol used in the V-Distributed System. They show that VMTP addresses all of the above issues within a single protocol without significant compromise. Keywords
