Abstract
A method for the quantitative separation of papaverine from narcotine in mixtures by using ammonium reinckate is described, and also its application to the determination of these alkaloids in opium. The identity and purity of these alkaloids isolated from opium is shown by means of ultra-violet, visible and infra-red spectrophotometry. The complete extraction of these alkaloids from the triturate of opium by chloroform was demonstrated by paper chromatography. The regeneration of pure papaverine from the reineckate complex is also described. Keywords
