Abstract
Small unit “intermediate housing” was planned on a demonstration basis to meet the needs of elderly persons who did not require institutional care. Three small row houses on a street adjacent to the Philadelphia Geriatric Center were purchased and renovated so that each accommodate several elderly women. Some services were supplied by the Center (there were two different service patterns) with the goal being to enable the tenants to function at a maximum level of independence. The success of the program has led the host agency to expand the program.
