Abstract
A single intravenous injectionof 1.25-160 mg N-diethylnitrosamine (DEN)/kg body weight (geometric progression) was given to male and female Sprague-Dawley rats. A dose of 1.25 mg DEN/kg body weight induced a kidney adenoma in 1 female. The high doses of DEN increased the tumor incidence and the number of kidney carcinomas and decreased survival, especially in females. Epithelial tumors (tubulary adenomas and carcinomas) were mainly found; only 1 animal had a malignant mesenchymal neoplasm.
