Abstract
Gain-switched operation of an optically pumped vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser with high-contrast AlxOy/GaAs distributed Bragg reflectors is characterised. A pulse width of less than 8 ps is obtained. The far-field radiation patterns at different pump levels are found to depend on the temporal response. Keywords
