Cutis Punctata Linearis Colli: Stippled Skin

Abstract
A tracer of small, whitish or yellowish papules on the V-area of the neck of some normal subjects is described: the affected skin has a stippled appearance. A similar pattern in strikingly exaggerated form was observed in 8 patients during prolonged therapy with corticosteroids: with 2, separate, exceptions they had also received periodic treatment with corticotropin and a testosterone compound. The clinical and histological appearances suggested that the treatment had produced a regular and uniform hyperplasia of the sebaceous glands in this area, and/or stimulated rudimentary sebaceous gland tissue. The relationship of the phenomenon to the pathogenesis of acne vulgaris and of corticosteroid-induced acne is discussed.
