Abstract
Variable inductance type strain gauges were inserted under each of 2 premolars and the first molar of an upper denture, the gauges being connected to associated electronic equipment and a strip chart recorder by means of thin wires. The chewing forces were recorded as deflections on a strip chart, and . measurements could be taken without interfering with normal, comfortable chewing. Preliminary tests, which included mastication of brittle and tough foods, indicated that the range of force which a denture wearer uses during mastication is small. Keywords
