Abstract
Optical reorientation measurements in dye-doped nematic liquid crystals are reported. The dye-induced optical torque exceeds significantly the normal optical torque for all anthraquinone dyes investigated. With one of the dyes, optical Freedericksz transition in a planar layer is demonstrated. Keywords
