Abstract
Long-chain fatty acid synthesis by rat-liver microsomes increases strikingly following birth. After a peak of activity at 11 days of age, microsomal synthesis declines until, coincident with the time of weaning, there is a rapid increase in activity to adult levels. Product identification indicates that microsomal fatty acid synthesis occurs primarily by chain elongation. Keywords
