In previous papers * in this journal Lauge-Hansen described his classification of fractures of the ankle according to their pathologic anatomy. He also explained his methods of reduction based on the genesis of these fractures and his technique of immobilization, which gives the best possibility of maintaining the anatomic relationship after reduction. The genetic roentgenologic diagnosis was discussed in a journal of roentgenology.2 The present paper is a report on the results obtained in a large series of patients treated by Lauge-Hansen's methods of reduction and immobilization, and these results are compared with those obtained by the methods which were previously used in this country. The evaluation of the effectiveness of these methods of treatment is based on the results as evidenced by roentgenograms taken immediately after reduction and on the results of follow-up examinations of the patients. The follow-up studies comprised questioning of the patients (subjective result), a clinicalKeywords
